History

Lojas Colombo began its activities in 1959, through a company formed by cousins Adelino Raymundo Colombo and Dionisio Balthasar Maggioni, in the city of Farroupilha , State of Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil . It was a small electronics shop, where Maggioni repaired radio appliances. It was called Maggioni & Colombo Ltda., which had its own philosolhy, that prevails until today: personalized service and a fundamental post-sale technical support. 1965 is an important mark in the Company's history, since it was on that year that the first store outside Farroupilha was established. That store was followed by new ones in Flores da Cunha, São Marcos, Vacaria and Veranópolis, all cities close to Farroupilha. From that point on, the Company would grow continuously. The strategy was always to reinvest profit and provide technical support permanently.

The founders of this small business did not imagine that in the 70's and 80's new branches would be established to attend the growing demand for the type of business they developed.
In addition to the main business and given the demand of the costumers to pay in installments for a longer period, Colombo and Maggioni started in 1964 a consortium company to address, initially, the sales of televisions, called Farroupilha Administradora de Consórcio (FAC). Today, FAC is the largest consumer electronics and white goods consortium manager, having incorporated Arca Administradora de Consórcios (specialized in vehicles) and Duell Administradora de Consórcios (specialiazed in motorcycles), both located in Porto Alegre.

In 1968, to ensure the continuous expansion, a capital subscription was made, with 12 new partners being incorporated, and the company ceased to be Limited Liability Company to become a Joint-Stock Private Company, named Colmagi S/A – Comércio de Utilidades Domésticas.

The 80's and 90's were also witnessed an accelerated growth, with Company's activities being expanded to the States of Santa Catarina and Paraná.
In 1992, the company identified the need to operate one single brand for the group. Therefore, Lojas Colombo S.A. - Comércio de Utilidades Domésticas was created.

The year 2000 marked the expansion to the São Paulo market, an import step to turn Lojas Colombo into a nationwide brand. Nowadays, Colombo is the country's fifth largest retailer of consumer electronics and furniture.

The company has approximately 335 stores all over the States of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo and more recently, Minas Gerais. It has four distribution centers located in Farroupilha (RS), Porto Alegre (RS), Curitiba (PR) and Sumaré (SP). It has approximately 6,000 employees.

In 2003, Credifar, the financial arm of Lojas Colombo specialized in consumer credit, started operations on an experimental basis. From 2004 onwards, it started to play a key role in financing Lojas Colombo's sales, using its own resources or funds raised in the market.

In 2005, Mr. Adelino Raymundo Colombo acquired the stake in the company inherited by Mr. Miguel Angelo Maggioni from Mr. Dionysio Balthazar Maggioni. Lojas Colombo is now fully owned by the Colombo Family, thus solving the shareholder issues that were compromising the Company's growth.

In 2007, Lojas Colombo S/A signed, through Credifar, a strong commercial and financial partnership with Banco Bradesco. In addition to providing funding for the financing activities of Lojas Colombo, this joint enterprise also promotes the synergies between Banco Brasdeco and Lojas Colombo’s expertise, leading to the broadening of the operational activities
